In 1973, Colonel William "Bill" R. Pogue, an astronaut on the NASA Mission Skylab 4, wore his SEIKO 6139 automatic chronograph on board - making the SEIKO 6139 the first automatic watch in space!![]() This was revealed only in 2007, when an eagle-eyed watch collector found a photo of Colonel Pogue wearing his SEIKO during the mission. In 2008, he sold it on auction for $5975, the proceeds of which went to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.
